"One of my favorite memories is our trip to Walt Disney World to Orlando, FL. The kids didn't know anything about this trip, only my host parents and me were involved in the plan, so we started packing their suitcases while they were in school and finally woke them up at 5 am in the morning, to tell them that there was a limo waiting outside of the house for us which was going to take us to the airport to go to Disney. The girls were so surprised and so excited and seeing them so happy made me feel even happier and more excited for the trip.

My second favorite memory is definitely Christmas. I had so much fun to help my host parents in the middle of the night before Christmas Day with putting all the gifts under the Christmas tree and I was so excited to see how the girls would react if they saw this ocean of gifts under the tree. Of course the girls were too excited to sleep and woke up at like 5:30am and came laughing in my room to hug me awake which was really cute. Before I went upstairs I went to my bathroom where I found a plate with German Christmas cookies and a note saying "Merry Christmas" in German. This Christmas was already more than perfect for me and besides all those great gifts my host family gave me the greatest gift actually was a gift tag which said "To: Domi From: Your Family" which I still keep in a picture frame next to my bed! This was really a very special Christmas for me, and my host family did their best to make me feel being part of their family and I never doubted that from then on."

"Anni arrived on a Friday in April. We knew things would be just fine when the next day, my husband and I could hear our 6 year-old son giggling and happy as could be; engaged in a playful wrestling match. And that same evening she could be found IN bed with my younger daughter; happily reading her a story. All this only one day after arriving. I truly feel that Anni has become a member of our family. I feel funny introducing her as our au pair. The term does not speak to the place that she holds in our family. If the definite characteristics of an au pair is to become part of the family, then Anni, with her boundless energy and capacity for joy and love has redefined the word."

"Pauline had only been with us for a month when we went on a long driving vacation. I was curious to see how she would hold up within our family. What a test! Our once large SUV seemed small and crowded with 6 individuals each with his/her own needs. Not to our surprise, Pauline helped with the children, was always pleasant with the conversation and did not complain. But it was while we were taking the ferry ride to Old Town, Virginia that I realized how much I liked and appreciated Pauline. As I watched from a distance, I realized that she was so sincere and good with the kids!"

"Maria was the best au pair we've ever had! She was pleasant to work with, always smiling, always happy, always ready to help out no matter what the task or request was! She adjusted to our family, became part of our family! She was always timely, gave excellant, nurturing care to our children who love her! She attended all her classes and met with the counselor without fail or reminders. Our au pair counselor, Holly Brown, was in contact with us and always does a fantastic job. We will be sad to see Maria leave, but I think we will remain in contact always, she's part of us!"

Fanny is an extra pair of hands for a harried single mom; shares her culture with us; enthusiastically learns about our culture from us; gets involved in our family and at school; creates a fun, lively environment with her easy laugh and her charming nature; and has become an integral part of our family. Fanny shares her culture, but not by talking about France all the time. Fanny's sharing is show-don't-tell style! She often cooks French food. This week, she will let my seven-year-old help make mini-quiches from scratch, and then take them to Claudia's classroom for their "Taste of Europe" as they study this continent."
