Our Au Pair Program Offers
A European Solution for American Families

au pairurAupair Intercultural Child Care Programs invites today's busy American parents to consider an age-old in home child care alternative from Europe: welcoming a young person from another country into your family as an au pair! The rewards that EurAupair families have discovered have made this established European tradition increasingly popular in America.

How can an au pair help you balance your work and your family life with a European solution? An au pair offers busy parents a much needed extra pair of hands. When you welcome an au pair from Europe into your home, you can be assured that your children will be cared for by an educated and responsible young adult, one who will enrich your family by expanding your knowledge of other countries and cultures. And because your au pair is considered a part of your family, your children soon look upon the au pair as a trusted older sister or brother. Leaving your children in your au pair's care becomes natural for your children and minimizes the worries you as a parent may have about their caregiver.

An au pair offers parents extra support to make juggling a busy schedule easier. EurAupair au pairs can transport your children to music lessons, Little League, Scout meetings, or doctors' appointments - so your children needn't miss out on anything! Au pairs can get children ready for school in the morning, greet them and help them with homework in the afternoons, care for a sick child or take them to the doctor or dentist when you can't be there. With this kind of assistance at home you'll be able to spend the time you have with your family as you choose and the quality of your family time can improve dramatically!

Because EurAupair (pronounced "yoor´-ô-pair") is an official United States government designated exchange visitor program sponsor, your au pair arrives with the proper legal documentation and you avoid the immigration problems that can result with an undocumented caregiver.

The approximate $313 weekly cost (including the $176.85 U.S. government required weekly au pair pocket money, excluding any educational or domestic flight fees) is a real value for such flexible, loving in-home care. And that's for children of all ages and per family, not per child!

Because EurAupair has an established and respected reputation in Europe, your family will be choosing an au pair from among the most qualified candidates.

In short, EurAupair offers today's families a child care alternative that is culturally enriching, convenient, legal... and affordable too!

The Au Pair Tradition

For generations, young Europeans have chosen to spend a year in another country living as part of a family while helping to look after the children. This experience provides them with an opportunity to learn about a different culture, enhance their foreign language skills, and expand their understanding of the world around them. In turn, the host family not only broadens its cultural awareness and develops a unique view of its own customs, it also gains an older "sister" or "brother" for the children who cares for them and offers companionship, love and guidance.

The word "au pair" in French means "on par" or equal, denoting living on an equal basis in a reciprocal, caring relationship between the host family and the young person. Like an older sibling, the au pair is included in all family activities, unlike an "employee" or a "servant" who might be excluded from family meals, holiday celebrations, and other activities. In Europe today, tens of thousands of families and au pairs continue this practical and mutually valuable tradition.

Becoming an Au Pair in America

Until recently, it was impossible for an American family to take advantage of this invaluable child care resource legally. Now, however, if accepted by an approved United States government sponsor organization, young persons may legally spend one year in the USA as au pairs. EurAupair Intercultural Child Care Programs, conducting a United States government designated Exchange Visitor Program, is currently seeking suitable American families interested in hosting an au  pair.

Like the au pair tradition itself, EurAupair Intercultural Child Care Programs has its roots in Europe. From this long-standing heritage, EurAupair brings to the United States bright, responsible au pairs who assist in caring for your children in exchange for inclusion in American family life, the opportunity to study at an American college (or other accredited post-secondary institution), and exposure to a new culture. Finally there is an  answer for busy parents: culturally rewarding, personal, in-home child care at a reasonable cost.

The EurAupair Organization

EurAupair is a U.S. not-for-profit, public benefit organization founded to improve understanding among people of different countries through cultural exchange. Through its network of affiliated overseas offices, EurAupair screens young people from many countries including Sweden, Denmark, Finland, England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Australia, Estonia, Ukraine, Russia, Japan, Latvia, Moldova, Turkey, Thailand, Taiwan, China, Korea, Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay, Argentina, South Africa, Mexico,

and French-speaking Canada who want to become au pairs. Usually females (some males available upon request), au pairs are 18 through 26 years of age and are conversant in English. All au pairs are licensed drivers. They are well-educated and have all attained at minimum a secondary school degree or its equivalent. A number have post secondary education (the European secondary schools are some of the finest in the world). Many plan to begin their careers or go on to a university, a vocational or graduate school following their year abroad. EurAupair au pairs are in good health and are fully insured for medical costs (EurAupair’s insurance is comprehensive, also including coverage for travel, accidental death, and personal liability). Au pairs are not professional child care providers, but all have experience caring for children (from occasional babysitting to vocational experience).

In short, they are many of the world's most sincere, enthusiastic and conscientious young adults and are eager to join your family.
