What to Expect With an Au Pair From Colombia
As most Latin American countries, Colombians can be described as outgoing, warm-hearted, and sociable people. A Colombian au pair is likely to be flexible on schedule, and will look forward to being a part of the family. A Colombian au pair will usually communicate easily about how she feels.
Colombian couples have on average three children, but have many relatives living nearby. Family is at the center of one's life in Colombia, and get-togethers, family reunions and meals are very common. Colombian children love their family so much that in fact, they tend to move out of their parents' home rather late; they often only settle on their own when they get married.
You can expect your live-in nanny from Colombia to have gained a lot of child care experience through babysitting cousins, nieces, and nephews. It's not very common in Colombia to use a day cares and parents rely heavily on relatives to care of their children.
In Colombia approximately 40% of households own a car. As can be expected, a Colombian au pair is likely to have little driving experience. Some Colombian au pairs take their driver's license as part of their au pair application. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair.
Colombian students are required to learn English from elementary school through high school. The curriculum of English classes focuses more on writing than speaking so you can expect your au pair to be better at writing and reading than listening and speaking. A good idea would be to put in writing your house's rules and your au pair's schedule, at least in the early stages of the program year, to ensure all is understood.

Child Care Experience
From March to November 2021, I worked in a school with kids between the ages of 5 and 14 years old. I supervised them, played with them, and did physical activities. From January to May in 2022 I took care of Valery, a 5-year-old kid. My responsibilities were: getting her ready for school; picking up from school, playing with her, helping her with the homework. From July 2023 to August 2024, I took care of Emely, 6-year-old. I helped her with homework, washed or organized the clothes, played games, took her to school, gave her snacks.

I helped with feeding the children, assisgned and reviewed tasks in the their notebooks, supervised two children with special needs to help in their academic development, and managed and coordinated activites. From January 2014 to March 2024, I took care of Zoe (1) for three hours, three days per week. I prepared meals, helped with schoolwork, supported participation in extracurricular activities such as sports and crafts and was present in child's morning and evening routines. From January 2021 to January 2024, I took care of Luciana (1), for four hours, three days per week. I prepared snacks, played in the park, taught child how to paint, improve speech, changed diapers, brushed teeth, and helped with general hygiene. From December 2023 to February 2024, I took care of Simom (2) and Aitana (1), for four hours, three days per week. I changed diapers, prepared snacks, played and got the children ready for bed.

I'd like to become an au pair for many reasons.
