Ukrainian couples usually have one to two children, and it remains a somewhat low average number of children per family in Europe. While families have become smaller it is still at the center of the Ukrainian culture, and it is quite common for grandparents to be actively caring for grandchildren and participating in their education. Parents tend to demand a better behavior, in public and at school, and can be perceived as stricter than the normal across Western culture.
Ukrainian au pairs will usually have child care experience through private babysitting of younger siblings and relatives, kids in their neighborhood, etc.
The procedure to obtain a driver’s license in Ukraine is quite complicated! It requires a series of written and practical tests. Ukrainian driving is known to be somewhat chaotic, which can also mean that your Ukrainian au pair will be used to paying attention to the surroundings and drivers around. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair.
Foreign language instruction is mandatory in Ukraine, and four languages are taught: English, German, French, and Spanish. Nearly 90% of students choose to study English.

Child Care Experience
Since January 2014, I've looked after a group of children ages 2 to 12 years old. I do activities with the children, supervise them and prepare meals for them. I volunteered at my church from March 2021 to April 2024 leading youth groups. I had supportive conversation with the teenagers, talking about their everyday life, prepared snacks with them and played with them. I've looked after my younger sister, Sigrid (10), since she was a toddler. I pick her up from school, prepare meals, bath her, do chores with her, help with homework and put her to bed. Finally, I looked after Harald (2) in October 2022. I changed diapers, prepared meals, played with him and comforted him when needed.

I want to become an au pair since I love children and taking care of children has always been a part of my everyday life. Both from caring for my sister but also being involved in children's groups in church the past 10 years. Children gives such a joy and warmness to me. My brother is an au pair right now and has been a big inspiration to discover the US. From 05/2024 to 06/2024 I cared for children ages 9 months to 5 years old, 7 days a week. I was responsible for changing diapers , feed food and play recreational activities. In June 2024 I cared for a group of students ages 3 to 4 years old for 5 days a week. I would help pick up children in the morning and send the children back in the afternoon. In 2023, I had the opportunity to join a work-and-travel program in the US. I’m a housekeeper. I often meet guests who come to stay. Most of them come as families. I have the opportunity to talk with them, which makes me happy every time because I feel like I can exchange ideas and experience cultural perspectives from them. I always wanted to be au pair because in my opinion it's a the best form to know the culture of other country in this case US and when I was a child my impossible dream was to travel the world. It was impossible because it was not within my means, but now I have a job and I can fulfill the dream of Aldana little girl.
