What to Expect With an Au Pair From Colombia
As most Latin American countries, Colombians can be described as outgoing, warm-hearted, and sociable people. A Colombian au pair is likely to be flexible on schedule, and will look forward to being a part of the family. A Colombian au pair will usually communicate easily about how she feels.
Colombian couples have on average three children, but have many relatives living nearby. Family is at the center of one's life in Colombia, and get-togethers, family reunions and meals are very common. Colombian children love their family so much that in fact, they tend to move out of their parents' home rather late; they often only settle on their own when they get married.
You can expect your live-in nanny from Colombia to have gained a lot of child care experience through babysitting cousins, nieces, and nephews. It's not very common in Colombia to use a day cares and parents rely heavily on relatives to care of their children.
In Colombia approximately 40% of households own a car. As can be expected, a Colombian au pair is likely to have little driving experience. Some Colombian au pairs take their driver's license as part of their au pair application. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair.
Colombian students are required to learn English from elementary school through high school. The curriculum of English classes focuses more on writing than speaking so you can expect your au pair to be better at writing and reading than listening and speaking. A good idea would be to put in writing your house's rules and your au pair's schedule, at least in the early stages of the program year, to ensure all is understood.

Child Care Experience
I babysat Lucia (5) from March to May 2023. I helped her with her homework, sometimes took her home after school, taught her how to ride her bike, taught her how to paint and sometimes we would have her friend over to do homework. I babysat Salome (3) in August 2024. I took care of her every afternoon, taught her to color, learn colors and we went out to the park to have fun, watched movies and I helped her to receive small meals and change her clothes. Finally, I babysat Luciana (5) and Juli (1) from February to May 2025. I helped Juli with her homework, taught her how to paint, and taught her how to receive her meals. I would prepare Luci's bottle, and we would play with her toys to help her improve her skills. I showed them animals and nature and how important it is for them to grow up surrounded by life.

From January to February 2026, I took care of Jose (4), for fifteen days. I was responsible for the child's safety and well-being, supervised the child at all times, prepared food, maintained the child's hygiene, helped get the child dressed, maintained a daily routine, and carried out educational activities. From June to December 2025, I took care of Adhara (newborn) between ten and nineteen hours per week. I prepared and fed bottles, changed diapers, helped with sleep and a sleep schedule, took care of the baby's hygiene, maintained a safe and calm environment, washed and organized the baby's clothes, and gave attention, affection and age-appropriate stimulation to the baby. From June 2024 to May 2025, I took care of Heimar (11) and Valery (7). I helped the children get ready for school, organized their clothes, made sure they were ready on time, assisted with daily routines, prepared meals, helped with homework, playtime, activities and maintained a safe environment.
