The family in Sweden is extremely important. It is shown by law and policies (such as one of the best maternity or paternity leave, or the right to reduce your workload until your child is 8 years old) but also by promoting family-friendly environments in restaurants & parks or in public transportation.
In Sweden most children get involved in extra-curricular activities, and this carries through later in life. As a result, your Swedish au pair will most likely have child care experience through coaching children at sports clubs or volunteering in child care related organizations.
Swedes will typically move out of their parents’ home to pursue post-secondary education, unless they study in the same city, in which case they may move out in their mid-twenties. In Swedish families, all family members participate in chores, so you can expect your Swedish au pair to naturally help around the house and with common chores.
In order to obtain a driver’s license in Sweden, one must attend driver’s education classes and a practical class on driving in poor conditions; then come the theoretical and practical tests. A learner’s permit can be obtained at 16 years old and a full driving license at 18. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with au pairs during the interview process.
You can expect your Swedish au pair to be very proficient in English, in reading and writing thanks to the educational system but also in listening and speaking since most content in the media or movies on TV are not translated, only subtitled.

Child Care Experience
I took care of Gabbi and Adam, ages 4 and 2 years, from January 2024, ongoing. I helped them get dressed, prepare snacks and food, played with them, made up fun games, taught them new things, helped them in new situations, encouraged them, read with them, and engaged in painting, arts and crafts, and basic everyday activities. I coached a girls’ basketball team from August 12, 2022, to May 2023. I planned and executed practices for the team. I also took care of children at a youth center from April 2015 to June 2018, I worked with children ages 5 to 15 years old. My responsibilities included caring for the children, coming up with fun activities, keeping everything in order, and ensuring everyone felt included. I also took care of Isak and Noel, ages 7 and 4, from April 2015 to June 2018. I played with them, took them to the playground, played sports, and had fun together.
Sports, Interests and Hobbies
Painting, sewing, singing, cooking, baking, basketball, soccer, volleyball, running, and gym workouts.

I want to become an AuPair because it's something I’ve always been interested in. It offers the unique opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture, build lasting relationships, and gain valuable experience working with children. I have always enjoyed spending time with kids, whether it's helping them with homework, playing games, or simply being a role model. I believe that by being an au pair, I can create a positive impact on their lives while learning and growing myself. Living with a host family will allow me to truly understand and appreciate the traditions, lifestyle, and language of a new country. I see it as a chance to step out of my comfort zone and develop a sense of independence. Not only will I gain practical experience in childcare and improve my language skills, but I will also build lasting friendships and make unforgettable memories along the way.
