Ukrainian couples usually have one to two children, and it remains a somewhat low average number of children per family in Europe. While families have become smaller it is still at the center of the Ukrainian culture, and it is quite common for grandparents to be actively caring for grandchildren and participating in their education. Parents tend to demand a better behavior, in public and at school, and can be perceived as stricter than the normal across Western culture.
Ukrainian au pairs will usually have child care experience through private babysitting of younger siblings and relatives, kids in their neighborhood, etc.
The procedure to obtain a driver’s license in Ukraine is quite complicated! It requires a series of written and practical tests. Ukrainian driving is known to be somewhat chaotic, which can also mean that your Ukrainian au pair will be used to paying attention to the surroundings and drivers around. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair.
Foreign language instruction is mandatory in Ukraine, and four languages are taught: English, German, French, and Spanish. Nearly 90% of students choose to study English.

I took care of Noam (1 year old) from February 2023 to March 2023. My responsibilities included changing his diapers, feeding him, playing indoors and outdoors, and bathing him. I took care of Marthe (1.5 years old), Nina (6 years old), and Sophia (8 years old) from January 2021 to April 2021. My responsibilities included picking the kids up from three different schools, preparing and giving snacks, helping the older kids with homework, and suggesting age-appropriate activities. I took care of Ilyes (12 years old to 21 years old with a handicap) and Noah (1 month to 12 years old) from January 2016 to October 2025, especially during weekends, every couple of months, and while on vacation in Tunisia. My responsibilities included providing daily care, preparing meals, and organizing educational activities for the kids. I took care of Romane (6 to 8 years old) and Axel (9 to 11 years old) from September 2018 to June 2020, about 12 hours per month plus weekends. I want to become an AuPair in the USA because it’s the perfect opportunity to care for children while experiencing an immersive cultural exchange. It is also an ideal environment to improve my English in a natural and enjoyable way. As the eldest of four siblings, I’ve been looking after my sisters for years, which has taught me patience, responsibility, and adaptability. I took care of Genesis, 4 years old, from January 2017 to December 2024. My responsibilities included babysitting, playing with him, preparing meals, supervising daily activities, ensuring his safety, and helping with homework and studying for exams. I looked after Valentina, a baby, from August 2020 to June 2025. I helped with feeding, bathing, supervising, playing, and putting her down for naps. I cared for David, 14 years old, from January 2023 to January 2024. I assisted him with homework and studying for exams. Over the years, I have frequently looked after the children of my parents’ friends as needed. Occasionally, I have supported a close friend with her baby since birth, helping her navigate the first months of motherhood. I have also provided occasional tutoring to a younger child of a friend, about one hour per week.

I want to be an Au Pair because I love spending time with children and learning from different cultures. For me, it is the perfect way to improve my English while doing something meaningful, becoming part of a family, helping with their children, and growing personally. As the oldest sister in a large family, I grew up caring for my younger siblings and have always been trusted with responsibility. *First-Aid Certified* I want to become an au pair because I am really fond of traveling and discovering other cultures. Since I was teenager, I am fascinated by the US not just because of the landscapes and all but mostly because I want to know the American culture even more by being immersed in it.
