Ukrainian couples usually have one to two children, and it remains a somewhat low average number of children per family in Europe. While families have become smaller it is still at the center of the Ukrainian culture, and it is quite common for grandparents to be actively caring for grandchildren and participating in their education. Parents tend to demand a better behavior, in public and at school, and can be perceived as stricter than the normal across Western culture.
Ukrainian au pairs will usually have child care experience through private babysitting of younger siblings and relatives, kids in their neighborhood, etc.
The procedure to obtain a driver’s license in Ukraine is quite complicated! It requires a series of written and practical tests. Ukrainian driving is known to be somewhat chaotic, which can also mean that your Ukrainian au pair will be used to paying attention to the surroundings and drivers around. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair.
Foreign language instruction is mandatory in Ukraine, and four languages are taught: English, German, French, and Spanish. Nearly 90% of students choose to study English.

VISA APPROVED: I babysat Daniel (9) from January to March 2023. I did recreational activities with him, helped with homework, played sports, did crafts and prepared meals for him. I babysat Thomas (10mths) from November 2023 to January 2024. I prepared meals, changed diapers, kept him clean and tidy, helped with activities and sang songs to him. Finally, I babysat Luciana (4) and Salome (7) on weekends. I've always wanted to spend time abroad, even more after visiting the US last year for the first time. I'm sure it's the perfect combination of experiencing the culture, taking care of children and being part of a family. Now I have the opportunity to take a gap year during university. I've had my driver's licence for eight years and have been driving almost every day. I started gaining experience early when taking care of my younger brothers and cousins regulary. I always loved spending time with children, they bring a lot of joy in return. During and after school I gained more experience in caring for children and babies, helping with homework and coaching kids in learn-to-skate lessons for ice hockey. Lastly, I cared for a group of children ages 1 to 5 years old from January 2016 to January 2018. My responsibilities included reading, listening to children's songs, teaching letters and numbers, playing educational games and putting them down for naps. I've babysat Ithan (1) since January 2025 on weekends. I feed, bath, and dress him, play with him and do fun exercises with him.

I took care of Yuxuan Li, a 12-month-old child, from February 2025 to May 2025. I was responsible for daily life care such as feeding, washing, and sleeping, while helping establish a regular routine. I ensured the child’s safety at all times by closely monitoring movements and preventing potential dangers such as bumps and accidental ingestion. I guided the development of basic habits, including independent eating and washing hands before meals. I also provided interactive companionship through games and picture-book reading to support emotional needs and early cognitive development, and I carefully observed the child’s mental state and diet to promptly identify any physical discomfort. I cared for Xiaoxiao Wu, a 4-year-old child, from August 2023 to December 2023. I guided the child in developing independent daily habits such as dressing, washing, and organizing toys, while reinforcing routines and proper table manners. I ensured safety and health management during outdoor activities and hands-on tasks, monitored diet and emotional well-being, and handled minor bumps appropriately. I supported cognitive development by improving language expression, logical thinking, and hands-on skills through picture books, puzzles, and creative activities. I also encouraged positive social interaction by teaching sharing, cooperation, and polite communication, helped resolve minor conflicts during play, and provided patient companionship to support emotional expression and regulation. From June 2025 to the present, I have been teaching Chinese calligraphy to a group of eight children aged 4 to 9. I teach correct pen holding, sitting posture, basic strokes, radicals, and simple character structures in a fun and age-appropriate way. I manage classroom order through engaging games and reward systems to maintain focus and ensure smooth lessons. I correct classwork and homework individually, provide detailed feedback, and communicate each child’s progress with parents. I design interactive lessons using stories, mnemonics, and stroke games to increase interest in learning, and I track each student’s writing foundation and progress over time.
