Ukrainian couples usually have one to two children, and it remains a somewhat low average number of children per family in Europe. While families have become smaller it is still at the center of the Ukrainian culture, and it is quite common for grandparents to be actively caring for grandchildren and participating in their education. Parents tend to demand a better behavior, in public and at school, and can be perceived as stricter than the normal across Western culture.
Ukrainian au pairs will usually have child care experience through private babysitting of younger siblings and relatives, kids in their neighborhood, etc.
The procedure to obtain a driver’s license in Ukraine is quite complicated! It requires a series of written and practical tests. Ukrainian driving is known to be somewhat chaotic, which can also mean that your Ukrainian au pair will be used to paying attention to the surroundings and drivers around. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair.
Foreign language instruction is mandatory in Ukraine, and four languages are taught: English, German, French, and Spanish. Nearly 90% of students choose to study English.

I've looked after Zaiden (11) since September 2024 twice a week. My duties include helping with homework, preparing meals, driving to and from school, supervising him on weekends, and assisting his father whenever needed. I worked at a restaurant from 2018 to November 2022 supervising children of all ages, managing large groups, assisting with meals, keeping children entertained, and ensuring their safety while parents relaxed. I babysat Luan (3) form February 2022 to June 2024 My duties included playing outdoors and indoors, doing water activities, helping with routines, supporting him during nap time by staying with him, offering emotional support due to his adoption background, and ensuring his safety on their small farm. From June to November 2023, I babysat Jenni (7) and Zane occasionally. My duties included supervising the children, preparing meals, keeping them entertained, ensuring they had fun, and putting them to bed at a reasonable hour while their parents were out.

I took care of Maëva from 4 to 10 years old, Maëlys from 7 months to 6 years old, and Timéo from 1 to 3 years old occasionally during school breaks between August 2019 and September 2025. My responsibilities included bathing the children, helping them with homework, playing together, going for walks, doing crafts such as Play-Doh, painting, and drawing, baking, and changing diapers. From June 2025 to August 2025, I cared for Lucas, who is 4 years old, and Agathe, who is 1.5 years old, during the week and school breaks. Additionally, in July 2025, I supervised a group of 25 children aged 2 to 14 during a 40th birthday party. In 2023, I had the opportunity to join a work-and-travel program in the US. I’m a housekeeper. I often meet guests who come to stay. Most of them come as families. I have the opportunity to talk with them, which makes me happy every time because I feel like I can exchange ideas and experience cultural perspectives from them. I think this is a good opportunity to join the Au-Pair exchange program. I can apply the experience that I learnt from school to take care of children. I took care of Kelys (7 years old) from June 2024 to August 2024. My responsibilities included watching over him while he played sports in the backyard, having snacks at 4 p.m., driving him around when necessary, playing the PS4 with him, and making sure he showered and cleaned his room. I also looked after Raphaël (9 years old) and Virgile (3 years old) from May 2025 to July 2025. I picked them up from school, supervised them at the park and on the way home, bathed the younger child and ensured the older one showered, prepared their dinner, and supervised the meal. On some evenings, I stayed later to put them to bed and watched over them until their parents returned. From February 2025 to May 2025, I took care of Emmy (7 to 8 years old) and Maïly (5 to 6 years old). My responsibilities included baking cakes with them (as no processed sweets were allowed at home), supervising their playtime, suggesting new activities, and taking them to the park.

After being a baby-sitter and remembering all the good times with my nephew, the au pair program is perfect to me. I want to participate in the Au Pair program because I would like to live the experience of getting to know another culture and a country different from mine, learning their language and being able to improve my English with native people doing what I like, which is taking care of children. I consider myself qualified for the program because I have experience caring for children from 3 months to 12 years of age, I work as a substitute teacher's assistant in a school with children from 3 to 16 years of age as a writing and reading reinforcement teacher and also taking care of the children at the end of the student session.
