Ukrainian couples usually have one to two children, and it remains a somewhat low average number of children per family in Europe. While families have become smaller it is still at the center of the Ukrainian culture, and it is quite common for grandparents to be actively caring for grandchildren and participating in their education. Parents tend to demand a better behavior, in public and at school, and can be perceived as stricter than the normal across Western culture.
Ukrainian au pairs will usually have child care experience through private babysitting of younger siblings and relatives, kids in their neighborhood, etc.
The procedure to obtain a driver’s license in Ukraine is quite complicated! It requires a series of written and practical tests. Ukrainian driving is known to be somewhat chaotic, which can also mean that your Ukrainian au pair will be used to paying attention to the surroundings and drivers around. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair.
Foreign language instruction is mandatory in Ukraine, and four languages are taught: English, German, French, and Spanish. Nearly 90% of students choose to study English.

From March to September 2025, I helped out at Nuestra Senora del Rosarion school with a group of children from 3 to 11 years of age, one day per week for eight hours per day. I followed the lesson plan provided by the regular teacher, managed the classroom, maintained a positive and orderly learning environment, took attendance, tracked participation and explained and assigned homework. From October 2024 to June 2025, I took care of Isabella (7) and Abigail (10 months). I helped with getting the children ready in the morning, supervised playtime, supported homework, followed the children's meal and nap time schedule, prepared bottles, changed diapers, gave baths, read books, sang songs, prepared food, and kept their rooms tidy. From July 2021 to August 2022, I took care of Mathias (8). I prepared meals and snacks, helped with homework, picked up the child from school, supervised during playtime and outdoor activities, followed daily routines, washed, folded, and put away laundry and cleaned and organized the children's spaces. From February 2020 to April 2021, I took care of Catalina (5). I prepared dinner, did stimulating learning and creative activities, taught order and tidy habits, did the child's laundry, cleaned the child's area and organized creative and educational activities.

I took care of Kelys (7 years old) from June 2024 to August 2024. My responsibilities included watching over him while he played sports in the backyard, having snacks at 4 p.m., driving him around when necessary, playing the PS4 with him, and making sure he showered and cleaned his room. I also looked after Raphaël (9 years old) and Virgile (3 years old) from May 2025 to July 2025. I picked them up from school, supervised them at the park and on the way home, bathed the younger child and ensured the older one showered, prepared their dinner, and supervised the meal. On some evenings, I stayed later to put them to bed and watched over them until their parents returned. From February 2025 to May 2025, I took care of Emmy (7 to 8 years old) and Maïly (5 to 6 years old). My responsibilities included baking cakes with them (as no processed sweets were allowed at home), supervising their playtime, suggesting new activities, and taking them to the park.
