Au Pairs From Argentina
Although a Latin American country, Argentina has many European influences and its culture resembles the European one. Argentinean au pairs will typically be flexible and quickly adapt to your family’s life. When having the chance to do a cultural exchange program in the United States, they will make efforts to be successful.
While large families are not as common as they use to be, Argentinean couples have on average two to three children. Argentineans have rather strong family values and will typically gather as a family for dinners and get-togethers with near-by relatives on weekends and holidays. You can usually expect your Argentinean au pair to enjoy cooking and participating in your family life.
Argentinean children will usually leave home at around 18 years old to pursue post-secondary studies in larger cities. They will get their own apartment and become independent at quite an early age. They love to spend time with their friends and enjoy socializing. These authentic and open-minded people are a joy to get to know. They're technologically savvy too. You'll find that most Argentineans have a smartphone and their own laptops — they're efficient communicators who understand the modern world.
For 30 years, EurAupair has been helping families find au pairs to assist them with child care needs. We're confident that our host families will enjoy inviting au pairs from Argentina into their homes.
General Facts About Argentina
Argentina has a rich history, and when you invite an Argentinean au pair into your home, you'll learn a lot about the country. Here are just a few of many facts:
- The country has a population of just under 45 million people, and it's growing rapidly.
- Three million people live in Buenos Aires, the country's capital, while another 10 million live in the extended metro area.
- Spanish is the official language of Argentina, and other people may speak English, native dialects, French or German.
- Many Argentineans want to be au pairs in order to travel and enjoy their independence, an important cultural characteristic.
- When au pairs return from abroad, they enjoy better job prospects thanks to their international experience.
- Argentina is famous for birthing the tango, and music and dance are a vital part of the culture.
Family Life and Children in Argentina
Most Argentinean au pairs will have experience in doing private babysitting as well as caring for relatives. Daycares are becoming more popular as more parents are employed. However, grandparents and relatives are often involved with the young children in the family.
Argentinean families are loving and supportive. Our au pairs love being treated as part of the family when they journey to the United States.
Driving Skills
Argentineans can obtain their driver’s license at 17 years old with parent approval (but may drive without an adult by their side). The driver’s license exam is divided into a written and practical exam. Although most young people will get a driver’s license, it is still quite rare for children to have their own car. Public transportation is well developed and is the most common mean of transportation for teenagers and young adults. We recommend that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair during the interviewing process.
Education
English is required in High School but only a few hours a week. Most students will take private English lessons to improve their English. Argentineans have a very open communication and will not hesitate to ask questions or share their feelings with you. If your au pair speaking skill is not as good from the get-go, it can be expected to improve rather quickly!
Communication and Language Skills
Argentinean au pairs welcome the chance to sharpen their language skills by coming to the United States. They see English as a critical tool in the global economy, and they want to improve at it.
Communication-wise, Argentineans are quite assertive. They say what's on their minds, and they're not afraid of conflict. You'll know where they stand on any issue, though they won't be disrespectful. They tend to use a lot of body language too, which can help you pick up on cues as to what they think and feel.
Religion
Roughly three-quarters of Argentineans belong to the Catholic church. The second-largest segment is Protestant. Over the years, Catholic customs have merged with local ones, such as ancient Andean practices. This blend of culture results in a unique form of Catholicism that thrives only in Argentina.
Diet
Argentina is famous for its production of beef. Popular dishes incorporate many grilled meats, along with cheese and lemon. Empanadas, which are sort of like meat pies, are very widespread as well. Interestingly, though Argentina has an abundance of coastlands, you won't find a lot of seafood being eaten. And while other South American countries embrace spicy food, Argentineans prefer their food without much heat.
We're eager to assist you with finding an au pair from Argentina who can assist your family with all your child care needs. We can help you find the right candidates to interview to join your loving family for a long-term cultural exchange.

My main reason for becoming an au pair is to improve my English and embrace new experiences and explore different parts of the world. Why do I consider myself qualified to participate in this program? First, I would describe myself as a responsible person who is also fun and easygoing. I have been teaching English at an institute since 2021, and the experience has given me valuable insights into working with children of various ages.
